Hi everybody. Jai Baba

I did pick this topic because it's dear to my heart and also for three Sahavas is running I gave my talk on psychic phenomena. So I'm finished with that one. This one is done how to work for Baba and I was just thinking especially listening to Charles reminisce about t hose first days with Baba. I had no idea of the future. I would have with *** you just when you meet Baba and drown in this ocean and like being drowned you don't care about anything else. It's just that wonderful moment. You're living with Baba. Don't ask him a lot of questions. You don't think of the future because the future really doesn't exist. Baba said that to neither the past nor the future exists the Eternal now and that's how it is with Baba. But of course we have to go on living and Baba throws us out into the world again, even when he was alive and in the body he'd let us fill our cups with his grace with his love and then he say now go off there and and drink it use it accused of it. And then he might call you back later and give you some more and that beautiful moment at the 62 Sahavas Baba looked out at least 10,000 people and he said this was after one of the *** he talked about being thirsty singing thirsty for God's love.

Give me a drop of your love and Baba looked at us all and said - all your heart all your hearts are dry of love for God, but when I break my silence, I will fill a cup of your heart to the full and you may drink to your heart's content and that promise is coming true at promise for all of us.

Baba said so like cup of your heart and I was thinking about what working for Baba means. Naturally we start thinking of it as an external thing, but it really begins in the heart and Baba has a famous talk of what Baba means by real work. He said I don't need you to do my work. I don't need ***, I don't need groups and leaders and so on I do my work, but I give you the chance to work for me. And that's really the whole thing in a nutshell. He really doesn't need us but we need him we need to do work for Baba because it's part of his work on us. And that is the touchstone of it all and when you think about that you get a perspective about Baba work kind of cleared up.

Why are you doing it? You're doing it as as a privilege a happiness and a chance to let Baba of work on you as you all know Baba said one time to this newspaper reporter in London. Who asked what is your real work sir? And Baba said my work is the elimination the limited ego. It'll like a top surgeon. That's his job brain surgeon Hearts their ego surgeon and also that's what working for Baba is his work on you is the elimination of the ego.

So when you work for Baba, that's what happens your ego gets eliminated slowly slowly. In fact Baba that same discourse what he meant by real work said that the real workers are like dust at his feet and as you know dust doesn't have any requirement no need nothing needed for praise or blame it just is dust and whether you sit by sometimes Baba had people working. So *** working you ain't nothing. He sent out his brother to Australia with some other fellow.

I forget to just sit in a movie theater there for three weeks in Melbourne or wherever it was. It was nice kind of work placement. But sometimes, you know like Milton said those who serve also serve only stand and wait and sometimes that was the hardest thing to see Baba give a nice juicy bit of work to somebody else and you were sitting there twiddling your thumbs thinking oh gee, I could do it better. You know, why am I and that happened to me in ah 56 I guess the only time Baba gave me a little kick or change or something. It was really very sweet to me.

Otherwise was in 56 Ivy and I had divided the work of recording Baba is trip and I was doing a the diary of day-to-day events and in between there the beautiful messages were read that Baba had already dictated and I assumed that when I printed all this in the Awakener those messages would go in their proper place because the message is read Don Stevens got up and read from the book that they were in and then Baba commented on.

You know, it was really all flow together and then very unexpectedly I found out all those messages were given to Ivy to publish in life at its best. So there was my first little you know, somebody else is doing what you think. You should do, you know, and so you just get ground down a little bit each time and I think of those those beautiful rounds river rocks, you know, they use them in gardening they get beautiful round beautifully smooth by grinding against each other and that's Baba's work and that's partly there's individual work, like people have individual talents. They foster and Baba were fostered always the creative part of you being the Creator you always wanted you to be creative and like I told Margaret Craske your dancing is my work and this one and that one but so there's group work and that's what I'm just devoting my little talk today on group work because I was involved in it right away working with Noreen Matchibelli and Elizabeth Patterson and Nadine Tolstoy in New York.

They were sent by Baba and 1941 to quote and this is Baba's favorite quote spread my message of love and truth and they too had not been involved in public work, but they very bravely plunge right into it in New York and I met them just shortly afterwards a year afterwards and right away we were all involved in helping them with their public work. And so I was really inspired by them and and how Elizabeth and Narina got the center ready for Baba got involved in that but it meant working with other people and this is really ah a unique experience for all of us because you're working for Baba. You're working with Baba and yet you're working with people who have differences from you have temperamental backgrounds different from you and everything. So it is always there always problems and I know all of you have been involved in Baba's work. Notice um how do you solve those problems? I thought about it in many ways. But the real solution is love the real solution. The only solution is love because Love Makes You tolerant, it makes you forgive easily. It makes you harmonious. It's like the grease in the motor makes everything go smoothly and you know when there are difficulties and there always are different. There's a lack of Love somewhere. It's not a lack of efficiency and planning and it's a lack of love and although efficiency is important Baba himself was in *** efficient in every tiny detail but only the Avatar can you know concentrate on such tiny little details and take care of them himself and that was the biggest example Baba of us to us in that way business like precise, on time. Every little fact taken care of nothing sloppy about it and you can see from the Mandali how jump-jump-jump they are not lazy or inefficient or unaware, it's sharpens up all your faculties and that that is a very important but with the love there behind. So I stopped very much about with Elizabeth as six dozen people problem for all of us and the Baba work continues its how we share this work and naturally there has to be some kind of structure to it, some kind of form, and there's quite a bit of debate about that. We have all our background and Christian history, Muslim history, of how bad and sad things can get if the structure isn't functional. In a following the inner part it can get very hard. Very crystallized. The authoritarian aspect can come in. The I am right and you are wrong. I'm following the direct path. You're following the indirect path. This is ism, and that ism and you know, you get a line of demarcation and already a sense of separateness. Where Baba has come for the Oneness as he's explained in this Creator, New Age dispensation, Avatar cycle. The manyness has gone to its extreme and created all the confusion in the world. Now. it has to go back to Oneness. It's like a wave that breaks into millions of particles. It has to now subside and go to our Oneness toward the ocean of Love, toward Unity. So the Baba work has to do that and I think in the New Age we have to have a new approach to it, ah which is basically a sharing, a group effort, without authoritarianism, without to heaviest crystallized structure, ah without rivalry, sexism, as and so forth. I think it's very important to concentrate on this and to do that ah means that you do have to give in a bit. It's so easy to be a authoritarian. It's so easy to be a leader and have people lean on you. It's hard to let someone else do something when you can do it better. It's some you know, all of those things and none of us have this training really and so we have to learn the hard way and but I think it's very important because as we move into the future, we will be to some extent an example we have Baba. But how do we present it to others in our own personal life? That's the first thing in our loving relationship. In our own solved problems in our own area, but then also as a group we function as a group and now more and more everyday when we pointed out to the Meher Baba group or is it ism, Sufism, or the society or this one that one or Baba House or wherever the little Baba world starts to enlarge. We will be an example of some kind and it's we have to think how we're doing it. And I feel very much in Baba's own actions with all of us for example sitting with him in 1962 is tremendous 10000 lovers - not just casual come in *** so for darshan people. Only lovers were allowed a little circle said we're lovers. Were all kinds of people and all kinds of backgrounds - racial, religious, cultural, economic. It was just a mass effect and you still see that at Amartithi that wonderful feeling that we are joining in Oneness and to continue that I have to learn to work in Oneness and this does require some ah feeling for each other ah for respect for the individual which is basically what democracy is and so kind of heavy that not making any jokes. I'm sorry, but if you really respect the individuality of the other person Let's tread on their area. You kind of join them ah they get more attention. Okay, you're not jealous. If you get more criticism, that isn't fair, okay, you know get depressed and runoffs am fed up with the whole thing. I don't like the Baba group. Goodbye, you know it you have to deal with these emotions because group work does create a lot of energy a Vortex of energy and this is its benefit and also like energy has its plus and minus side. And so you have to deal with the plus and the minus or the positive and the negative. If you only come to work for the positive nice things, you won't last very long. You'll come up against the negative in some way personal or disappointments in the work or failures, whatever and you'll run off if they are too tough and that makes the difference between those are really last and those are just vanish in the Woodwork. And I'll tell you being with Baba you saw how he appreciated his workers and some of those scenes in the movie. You see Baba with a group. He always called his workers. There was the mass. Yes, but then it every darshan we haven't we had separate small meetings of the Baba workers. And that was a great privilege. First of all more time with Baba and that's also one reason I joined every group I could go. You know, I got in to see Baba has a Monday night group from New York, and Los Angeles group, part of the Sufi group, and the Awakener. And in other words. I wanted to be with Baba as much as possible and being a worker was sort of a include - to get in with Baba and also the basic feeling I had why work for Baba, you know the Baba is working on your ego this way through other people just like he did in his ashram at Nasik or with his Mandali at Manzil-Meem in the prem ashram with the youngsters. Ah it always was group work. It's not the Baba doesn't deal with the individual and your inner life with him, but he would plunge you into association with other people and for me that was always hard. I was naturally a type of an introvert, not into groups of at all. And I thought the theory Baba is changing me to the opposite like Delia told ah to working for him is symbolized by the fact one day that this is in 52 Baba personally gave me his laundry to wash and to iron and you know, what Baba wore these very thin sadras *** and had a terrible iron at Myrtle Beach same old clunky thing and I was so afraid I'd burn a hole in Baba's sadra. It wouldn't be smooth and I've always hated ironing. I hope and yeah, I had to iron Baba's clothes every day and also Meheru's saris and I was so scared and I thought Baba's making do this thing I don't like to do and and that's very symbolic now to me as Baba having me work with groups and with people just the opposite way. I started out as a personality in life and but the love of him you'll do anything just like Charleston. It's just you're so happy to give something to Baba not only to take but to give and that's the essence of work.

If they come to a meeting wonderful, you take home something and that's beautiful but also see it and I think that when you think the get to the point where the giving is more important than taking than your real Baba work and you could see how happy Baba of was with you're doing things for me. Just like if Baba were here and he asked you to do something. However small you just love to do it. So you must think Baba is there and so you are doing things for Baba even the things you don't like to do or don't know how to do.

And again accepting other people a cooperation with other people. I find it really inspiring to work as a group with a group like this Sahavas has been a real group effort. We could never do it alone. And I think that's very symbolic for the future. It you know to go back to Mystical Christianity. You are part you're a cell in the body of Christ. You're not the bright, you know, you're not the one that runs the show your just self in that body. But by joining in you all stay alive, you all share the life of the body in your communion, you find the Oneness in the manyness the unity and the diversity and that is the secret of continuing life in doing Baba work and I think it's very important in the future to stay together as a group and I don't labeled groups, but as a community of Baba lovers wherever we are geography doesn't matter that that you're all here today proves that but in our group effort to love Baba to share whatever we can do inwardly on ourselves and towards the world to give the gift of just simple things like Baba has shed his Grace for anyone even to hear my name in this time. So the least you can do is share about his name with people out there.

However, we you know little technical means that this bag I got manner but you can share even with some of these sit next to on a bus or an airplane or you know, that's Baba's work doesn't have to be big. It can be small. It's like Baba said in the discourse the Infinity of the truth. The smallest is as much as the greatest a smile given at the right time. It's just as much Baba work.

You giving $50,000 to the to the X something project. And that's the hardest thing to remember that those small things that come from the heart are the essence of Baba's work. Just like Charles and dealing others have said the small things that Baba did that touches of Love are the things you remember a more than big things in Baba is way of showing that to be really Godlike is to be human to be really human. Baba said once what is it to be divine? He said it's to be truly human. So I work always has to be truly human and we must never lose that humanizing heart quality. Otherwise, everything's a failure, you know, we could have millions of dollars of movies and publicity and centers and God knows what and it would just be dry and meaningless and so I just feel that share with you that I hope we all continue together in Baba's words and as dust and maybe Baba will pick that desk up put it on his feet and walk with us with that dust to the goal as he's promised. Anyway, Jai Baba
